Evan Bliss

Evan Bliss

Evan Bliss is one singer-songwriter to watch. His voice, combining the effortless soul of Maroon 5's Adam Levine with the smoky blues undertones of Ray LaMontagne, makes his alt/rock/pop sound unmistakable. Ubiquitous despite not yet being a household name, Evan's music has been featured in commercials for surf-inspired footwear maker Reef, and he has performed in support of artists as diverse as O.A.R., Wyclef Jean, and the Flaming Lips. Evan is building on the groundswell of popularity he enjoyed with his former band, well-respected East Coast reggae rockers 'The Low Life'. Needless to say, you will be hearing much more from him with his latest release on Holster Records.

CityDance Ensemble

CityDance Ensemble

CityDance Ensemble is a professional dance company based in Washington, DC. Promising its signature power, passion, and purpose at every turn, the company performs athletic, challenging repertory by choreographers from the United States and around the world. Under the direction of Artistic Director Paul Gordon Emerson, Rehearsal Director and Choreographer-in-Residence Christopher K. Morgan and Executive Director Alexe Nowakowski, CityDance Ensemble blends exceptional technique and physicality with a dynamic mix of energy, emotion, and humor to deliver performances full of integrity, expression, and life.

Low End String Quartet

Low End String Quartet

The Low End String Quartet was formed by composer / guitarist Jonathan Matis. The instrumentation differs from the standard string quartet model, adding a bass, dropping a violin, and swapping a guitar where the viola should be. This "new and improved" string quartet lineup is much better suited to clubs and bars than the classical model, and is better equipped for rumbling your ribcage.

Artists:
Billy Colbert

Billy Colbert

Billy Colbert was born in Baltimore in 1970. His work can be described as visual folklore. He is intrigued by the lost art of story telling and its listening audience. As a result, Colbert tries to captivate the viewers of his work and allow them to feel the experience of those whose lives are represented in his art. He composes imagery, literature, and nature into a layered atmosphere which serves as documentation of the past and the foundation for the future.

Colbert's most notable solo exhibitions have been museum shows at the African American Museum in Dallas, Texas, and the Delaware Center for Contemporary Art in Wilmington, Delaware. In 2000, Colbert was selected best in show for the prestigious Carroll Harris Simms National Black Art Biennial Competition.

Colbert's work is in many private as well as public collections. He received his MFA in Painting from the University of Delaware in 2000, where he was a Presidential Fellow.

Dana Ellyn is a DC resident and full-time painter who lives and paints in her studio in a subsidized artist housing unit in downtown Washington DC. Dana committed herself to full-time status in 2002 when she decided to leave her corporate job and pursue painting. Dana values her fine arts training but now works on peeling away the art school compulsion to make, and hide behind, pretty pictures.

Kelly Towles

Kelly Towles

I think everything is fair game. That goes for subjects, settings, materials, collaborations, dumpsters and food. My early "education" came from anime and the BBC. Shows like The Young Ones and Danger Mouse; movies like Ninja Scroll and City of Lost Children. Stories that jumped off the screen. At some point, I made it from Alice Springs to DC, BBC to BFA. But don't let that fool you. I'm more concrete than canvas. At least that's what I think. Probably some "meaning" hiding out in there. I'd rather you find it. I will do this for the rest of my life.

Mike Iacovone

Mike Iacovone

Michael is an artist and a teacher. He has been working on these photos for nine years but he almost never has a camera on him. He will grow a mustache for any occasion no matter how bad it looks. He was allowed to play with mercury in his middle school science class with his bare hands. He prefers walking to driving, beer to wine, and bacon to anything else. He can't spell, but claims to be able to ride a unicycle. He can't touch his toes but knows they exist. He was born left handed, but gave it up because he has trouble telling which hand that is. He will live longer than Kevin. His past Halloween costumes include, but are not limited to: Bacon, the drummer from Def Leppard, Sexy Pumpkin, Ozone from the gold meddle winning break dance duo The Man Eaters, Scary Clown, a Dancing Monkey with an organ grinder, a Maryland Driver, Senior Bumblebee, Roy being mauled by a white tiger, and a Shark Eating a Monkey (which is different than a monkey-eating shark, think about it). He has never lost a competitive eating competition, and never played the lottery. He was born in Massachusetts, grew up in South Florida and Upstate New York, briefly lived in New Orleans and Montana, and once spent a year studying art in London and all he had to show for it was 30 drawings of Elvis and an enormous credit card debt. He has lived in and loved the District of Columbia since '99 but misses his voting rights. He makes and keeps to his own rules. He thinks about numbers a lot and how they relate to each other. He will not wear shoes to work because it is not a rule. He drove to Alaska and back in a $300 car named Roberta, and lists her as an ex-girlfriend. He watches too much baseball and not enough basketball. He seems to be getting shorter and wonders how that's possible. He loves to cook but refuses to measure anything.
